In this series I explore planets and nebulas. Watercolor is a perfect medium for creating the distant rivers and oceans of planets, as well as the clouds and fractal patterns of nebulas. It is not as much painting as it is playing with and manipulating the way the water behaves. I use a simple floating circle to contain my celestial objects, allowing a peephole into the vastness of space and demanding focus to the drama within.
I love this series so much because it allows me to research space- which I just love! When I was little I was afraid of space- because of aliens, and also the existentially mind blogging fact that it is so big. Now I am enraptured by space and what it could be for humanity in the future. And my favorite sci-fi novel is Aurora by Kim Stanley Robinson, just in case you were wondering.
